Para Los Niños
Los Angeles, California
Para Los Niños means For The Children
The agency
opened its doors in 1980 in response to the plight of children living
in Skid Row hotels. Without appropriate intervention, these children
were often kept locked in hotel rooms while parents worked, or were
left alone to wander the halls and dangerous neighborhood streets.
Initially, 45 children received care at the agency. Over the course
of our relationship with them, Para Los Niños has expanded
to assist more than 1,350 children, aged 6 weeks through 18 years,
each weekday — and more than 3,500 families every year.
The agency provides academic enrichment, youth services, child development,
crisis intervention, case management, counseling, therapy, violence
prevention and more. Its multi-layered services address families’
immediate crises and long-term needs.
Para Los Niños provides services from 15 sites in some of
Los Angeles County's most impoverished neighborhoods, as well as
in San Bernardino County.
